Choosing the right combs and knowing how to use them properly is an important step on the way to beauty and hair health.

Each comb has its own features and purpose, so one comb in your beauty arsenal is unlikely to be enough.

Let’s start with what to brush your hair with after you wash it. This is the first article in a series about combs, so here we’re going to go into great detail about one thing: how to get your hair ready for styling.

We have combs that are the basics: combs, flat combs, and any other comb comb type that can be used to get your hair ready for styling.
We’ve called these combs “staple combs” because they do a great job at separating and detangling your hair.

A basic comb, your must have.

A comb or a comb with a wide space between large teeth is an indispensable basic comb for curly hair and hair that tends to get tangled. A “basic” comb means whether your hair is wet or dry, use a comb as a basic prep, and then use another comb depending on what kind of style you have in mind.

A wooden comb doesn’t make your hair look electric. A very good comb is very well-polished wood, and it would be better to use it without varnish. The lacquer will be damaged, will come off with time, and the micro-cracks on the comb will slowly but surely deteriorate the hair surface. If the wood is not treated smoothly enough, alas, the hair from such a comb will eventually become split. When choosing a wooden comb, be picky and careful not to harm your hair.

A wide-toothed plastic comb is easy to clean and versatile. A plastic comb is also a good option and the rule applies here as well as with wood – make sure that the teeth are smooth without scratchy joints. Sometimes girls keep combs from hotels for use. It’s better not to do this and to choose smooth and quality combs and combs made of plastic.

Very fine-toothed combA very fine-toothed comb for those with “complicated and tangled” hair. Plastic comb with wide-split teeth is even handy for balayage treatments to distribute the mask on the hair.

Can I brush wet hair?

It’s best to leave wet hair to dry naturally, and comb it out when it’s only slightly damp. Wait for about 30 minutes or blow-dry your hair and take a comb. This way your hair is easier to comb through, less traumatized, less split, and doesn’t lose its shine. When the hair shaft is wet the scales of hair are not tightly attached to each other, as if “opened,” the hair becomes heavy and elastic, easily pulled, their structure deteriorates.

And yet most women comb wet or damp hair – there just isn’t enough time to do it right. One more reason, and a fairly common one, is that some people can’t manage to comb their hair when it’s already dry. In this case we advise to pick such a balm or oil, which will make it easier for you to brush, but still, if possible, do not brush your hair when it’s wet.

If you still prefer to “take” wet hair, then a comb or a comb with large, sparse teeth is good for you

Tip: Even before combing, apply some special hair oil to wet hair, so the combing will be even more gentle and even beneficial for your hair. How to apply hair oil correctly? You will need a little oil – one or two small drops (for medium hair length). Put a drop of the oil on your palms and rub it lightly between your hands, this way you’ll let the oil warm up, and when it’s warm it will give your hair the best of its ability. Work the oil into your hair, backing it far away from the roots. Don’t rub your hair over, but rather as if you’re ironing the strands between your palms.

What kind of brushes are suitable for wet hair?

Certain types of brushes can also be suitable for wet hair care. They can smooth hair, help distribute hair oil evenly, and even give a light styling effect without a blow dryer.

A frame brush with sparse teeth. Some girls find it convenient to use this brush just for still wet hair. Often this brush is chosen by the owners of manageable hair of medium length – the brush sets the direction if the hair is slightly damp, but not wet. After final drying the hair is smoothed out and even sticks to the set shape.

There are also brushes that, according to manufacturers, are specially designed for combing wet hair. The main feature of such brushes is that the hair straightens and looks styled if it is good to comb it in several approaches with special combs at different stages of drying. In doing so, you can avoid exposure to the hair dryer and give your hair a “rest” from hot styling products. Of course, this is typical for those girls whose hair is naturally quite straight.
